Svea Mine Spitsbergen- 78 degrees latitude north and 17 degrees western longitude

Spitsbergen This is the address of the most northern mine ventilation system supplied by Korfmann. Under toughest ambient conditions with outer temperatures below –40°C, coal is extracted in Spitzbergen.
The “Svea Gruva” coal mine is one of the most productive coal mines in Norway and is about 40 km of air distance away from Spitzbergen’s capital Longyearbyen.
Two explosion-proof ventilation systems of type Korfmann dAL17 are alternately delivering fresh-air of up to 80 m3/s. A container provided with frequency converter and signal transformer is located about 400 m away from the mine and allows for a PC control of these ventilation systems whereas the complete monitoring station is another 2 km away from the container. This fully-automatic ventilation system was put into operation in 2004. Moreover, two explosion-proof dedusting fans were commissioned in the same year.

Description:

SIHCon AS has since 2004 delivered Korfmann fans for ventilation of the coal mines at SVEA, Alvenius pipe-lines for water supply and a variety valves.

Korfmann:

All the fans delivered to this project is explosion-proofed and approved fro use in coal- mines(ATEX regel 94/9/ EG). The four main fans that are delivered are of type dAL17-2500 (4 x 250 kW) with frequency converter and signal transformer is located about 400 m away from the mine and allows for a PC control of these ventilation systems whereas the complete monitoring station is another 2 km away from the container. SIHCon AS also delivered dampers, 4 pcs. ES9-500, 1 pcs. ES6-150 and 2 pcs. ES4-15, 1 stk. ES3,5-11 with dustfilters and fire-damper for use in different areas in the mine.

Alvenius:

Over 20 000 metres pipeline with diametre ranging from 76 mm up to 254 mm, working-pressure from 25 up to 60 bar have been delivered. Some of the pipes were pre-isolated with heating-cables.

Valves:

SIHCon AS has delivered over 80 pcs. valves ranging from dia. 50 – 150 mm, wheras 34 pcs. have been pressure-reduced valves and over 20 have been high-pressure valves. Most of the valves have been delivered for the purpose of building fire-outlets.
